Music Resources
Music Requirements
- In total, no longer than 15 minutes of music
- Up to 3 pieces
- No classical or jazz music (some jazzy style is ok, we’re trying to avoid extended improvisation)
Where to Get Music
- Adrian Wagner Music (notes: youtube, mostly quartets and quintets)
- Lincoln Music Publications (notes: quartets and quintets, mildly expensive)
- Cindy Blevins Music (notes: there are a bunch of different small ensembles, mostly duets and trios, direct links to buy on sheet music plus)
- Musescore (notes: lots of different pieces for lots of different ensembles, potentially you can download things for free if you do a free trial then cancel, but Chamber Pops has not confirmed this, and of course would never *officially* recommend it if it is in fact possible)
- SheetMusicPlus (notes: lots of good music, very very large database however, so you need to know what you’re looking for)
- Ultimate Collection of Pop Chamber Music (notes: this is a document that Chamber Pops is currently in the process of putting together to provide resources for groups to use. We used a lot of the sources mentioned above when creating this)
How Do I Pick a Good Piece?
- Pick things that are easily recognizable: i.e. popular movie/musical songs, classics (old people songs), popular music
- NOTE: a lot of songs that sound good when produced are often just the same notes over and over again, so make sure you pick pieces with varying melodies
- Make sure you pick pieces on your level: look for arrangements that aren’t super dumbed down but also make sure you can play it well
What If I Can't Find Arrangements for my Ensemble?
That’s ok!! We welcome any type and size ensembles, conventional or not. One of the easiest things to do when faced with this is to find an arrangement for a similar size ensemble as you, no matter the instrumentation, and simply transpose keys to fit whatever instrumentation you need. There are a variety of online tools and tutorials on how to do this. If you need help with anything at all, email us at contact@chamberpops.com and we’ll be happy to help you find music for your ensemble!
Below, we’ve linked a playlist of popular songs that we’ve found have been not too difficult to get arrangements for. If you have any other questions, email us at contact@chamberpops.com or DM us on Instagram @chamberpops and we’ll be happy to help!
